Unconventional Hydrocarbons
Why Unconventional
Unconventional hydrocarbons: unconventional hydrocarbons are defined as gas, condensates and oils which are preserved in source rocks and require the application of certain drilling and completions technologies to be extracted at commercial rates.
Natural gas is an important source of energy. It is a clean-burning fossil fuel. We use the energy from natural gas to heat our homes, cook our food and generate our electricity. As other energy sources are phased out for economic and environmental reasons, demand for natural gas will continue to increase. Further, our known conventional sources of natural gas in North America are declining rapidly. Unconventional gas is an important component of our future energy supply.
